Points and Strings

To access this dialog:

This tab is used to define how string, string outline and string data selection processes are managed:

Field Details:

String Tools:

  • Strings used for combining are kept: turn on or off whether strings used for combining are retained. If this toggle is on then strings used in combining are retained. If it is of they are erased.

  • Strings used for traces are kept: toggle on or off whether strings that make up a string are retained. If this toggle is on then strings which were selected to make up a string will be erased when the trace is ended.

  • Use model slope field for projection: turn on or off use of model slope in string projection. If turned on then the face angle for string projection at a point will be derived from the value in the cell model SLOPE field. This value will take preference over rosettes and the default value. If the value is absent it will be ignored. It is not possible to turn the use of the SLOPE field on if there is no cell model file or if the cell model file contains no SLOPE field. The initial setting is off.

  • Use rosettes for projection: turn on or off use of rosettes in string projection. If turned on then the face angle for string projection at a point will be derived from rosettes. The value will take preference over the default face angle but has a lesser priority than the cell model SLOPE field. It is not possible to turn on the use of rosettes if no rosettes are defined.

  • Intersect wireframe for projection: turn on or off wireframe intersection when projecting string. If turned on then when projecting a string the projection will stop when it intersects a wireframe. If turned off the wireframes are ignored. The initial setting is off.

  • Edit coincident points: turn on or off the ability to move string/wireframe points coincident with a selected point.

String Outline Generation:

  • Generate all possible outlines: toggle for individual selection of new outlines. If this toggle switch is turned on, then during use of the generate-outlines command, each new outline will only be generated by cursor selection, inside the required outline shape. If this toggle switch is turned on, then the outline-batch-switch will be automatically switched off, and vice-versa.

  • Select new outlines individually: toggle for individual selection of new outlines. If this toggle switch is turned on, then during use of the generate-outlines command, each new outline will only be generated by cursor selection, inside the required outline shape. If this toggle switch is turned on, then the outline-batch-switch will be automatically switched off, and vice-versa.

String/Point Movement:

  • Move relative to plane: toggle for moving points, selected and moved with left-click (i.e. no snapping), to be moved relative to the view plane.

  • Move relative to screen: toggle for moving points, selected and moved with left-click (i.e. no snapping), to be moved relative to the screen plane.

Data Selection:

  • Holding <Ctrl> down during the selection will leave any items outside of the box selected if they were before. Any items within the box will have their selection state reversed.

  • The group-select-box-switch is honoured (context menu Data Selection / Select within Box). If this is not set (ticked in the context menu), no selection box will be available when dragging in selection mode.

  • Select string when all points in box: if enabled, only strings that lie completely within the bounding box of the selection area will be selected (box-all-points-inside-switch).

  • Select string when crosses box: if enabled, strings will be selected if the selection box contains a part of the string(s) (box-any-points-inside-switch).

  • Drag box left to right to include crossing strings: toggle to include any crossing strings when selection is made left to right.

  • Drag box right to left to include crossing strings: toggle to include any crossing strings when selection is made right to left.
